Laurie Burks, Board Member

As a dedicated law enforcement professional with over two decades of experience exclusively at Rockwall PD, Laurie delved into various roles within the force, currently serving in the Criminal Investigation Division, focusing on family violence and sex crimes. Throughout her tenure, she has worn hats as a Field Training Investigator, Cooper Fitness Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and a valued member of the SWAT Containment Team.

Laurie's commitment to supporting fellow officers extends beyond the city of Rockwall, encompassing the entire metroplex through her involvement with the Assist The Officer (ATO) Foundation and the Dallas Police Association (DPA). Witnessing the unwavering support and inclusivity of these organizations regardless of origin has deeply inspired her. Being part of such a familial environment is both humbling and an immense honor.

Beyond law enforcement, Laurie finds solace and fulfillment in guiding early morning fitness classes for a dedicated group of women at a local gym in North Texas. This routine not only fits seamlessly into her schedule but also instills a sense of accountability and purpose each day. Additionally, her role in church security within Rockwall grounds her, reaffirming the presence of goodness amidst life's challenges.

Laurie's dedication to community service extends to her involvement with the Rockwall Police Officers Association, where she has served on the board for 17 out of her 20 years of service. Through collaborative efforts, they organized numerous events benefiting the Children's Advocacy Center and Women in Need, including fundraisers and gestures of appreciation for frontline workers during challenging times.

Furthermore, as a member of the Board of Directors for Women in Need, a local domestic violence resource center, Laurie remains steadfast in advocating for those in vulnerable situations.

Outside of her professional and philanthropic endeavors, Laurie is blessed with a fulfilling family life, cherishing moments with her three children, including one who has followed in her footsteps as a police officer. Laurie finds joy in nature, whether tending to her garden, exploring the beach, or marveling at the vast Texas sky.

Living, working, and serving in this vibrant community is a privilege she holds dear, reaffirming her faith in the goodness that surrounds us.

In summary, Laurie Burks' extensive experience in law enforcement, dedication to supporting her fellow officers through organizations like the Assist The Officer Foundation, active involvement in community service initiatives, and her compassionate advocacy for vulnerable individuals make her an excellent candidate for the role of a board member at Assist The Officer Foundation. Her commitment, leadership skills, and genuine care for others would undoubtedly contribute positively to the foundation's mission of aiding law enforcement officers in times of need.
